Curve encirclement and protein structure.
A method of measuring the extent to which space curves encircle one another is introduced. The method provides a family of sets which characterize encircling curves, allowing curve pairs that engage (and also single curves that self-engage) to be distinguished. The method is applied to the backbone chains of protein molecules.
متن کاملVena cava encirclement predicts difficult native hepatectomy.
Recipient hepatectomy is a challenging liver transplantation (LT) procedure that has life-threatening complications. The current predictive mortality clinic-biological scores (Child/Model for End-Stage Liver Disease [MELD]) do not take into consideration the recipient's liver anatomy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the dorsal sector anatomy of a cirrhotic liver on the morbi...
متن کاملDistributed Target Localization and Encirclement with a Multi-Robot System
This paper presents a control scheme for localizing and encircling a target using a multi-robot system. The task is achieved in a distributed way, in that each robot only uses local information gathered by on-board relative-position sensors assumed to be noisy, anisotropic, and unable to detect the identity of the measured object. Communication between the robots is provided by limited-range tr...
متن کاملINF2-Mediated Severing through Actin Filament Encirclement and Disruption
BACKGROUND INF2 is a formin protein with the unique ability to accelerate both actin polymerization and depolymerization, the latter requiring filament severing. Mutations in INF2 lead to the kidney disease focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and the neurological disorder Charcot-Marie Tooth disease (CMTD). RESULTS Here, we compare the severing mechanism of INF2 with that of the well-st...
